We use it to start our observation and then go to a far better guide. If you want something that is very light weight, can resist rain, and is a handy, but simple guide - this is a decent buy.|From the Back Cover|North Carolina Birds, An Introduction to Familiar Species, is a must-have, reference guide for beginners and experts alike. Whether you're on a nature hike or in your own backyard, you'll want to take along a copy of this indispensable guide

The Tarheel State is the permanent or migratory home of 473 species of birds, including the state bird – the northern cardinal. This beautifully illustrated guide highlights over 140 familiar and unique species and includes an ecoregion map featuring prominent bird-viewing areas. Laminated for durability, this lightweight, pocket-sized folding guide is an excellent source of portable information and ideal for field use by visitors and residents alike.
